'rocco was telling me a while back that in DK, there's a list of "approved" names. you can't choose one that's not on the (admittedly extensive) list.

that seemed a little bit over the top to me, but then i'm used to people with really oddball names.

yes, i agree - when i was at school, there was no "add/adhd", there was no "dyslexia" or other shit - definitely not on a scale it is today. now it's all "look, i got a paper that says i'm dyslectic" or some other type of synonym for "i'm a bitchass lazy motherfucker".
i'm so fucking pissed when the kids today are defending themselves with "i got dyslexia" like it was the answer for every fucking thing... try harder, you fuck.
maybe it's a bit different abroad, but in poland it's kinda just like that.

i had to vent, sorry :)

there's definitely over-diagnosing and abuse of the terms here. being diagnosed CAN turn into permission to fail. for every lout or lazyarse, though, there are so many quiet successes that we don't notice. :) don't let confirmation bias skew your perception of a whole population.

that said..... there's one thing i know for sure. :) if you can learn the lyrics to pop songs, you can learn to spell.

Cactus Kid advert ordered off air
The drink's manufacturers, Coca-Cola, said the commercials were removed from reality and were cleared for broadcast.
    ...
The ASA said although Cactus Girl was not under-age, many viewers may have regarded her as being in her early teens.

It said: "We also considered that the combination of her youthful appearance and the reference to her pregnancy meant [the advert] could be interpreted to condone under-age sex and teenage pregnancy."

Chris, an active member of fazyluckers.com, had this to say: "lol, wtf?".

but not just extra-wide folks who find the seats a bit uncomfortable. that's something. since morbid obesity is classified as a disablity, they had to go that way.

Elizabeth Malcolm, 43, has never had a job.
She lives in a two-bedroom council flat in Glasgow with her three children, one grandchild, two cats and a hamster.

Neither of her two working-age children have a job.

...But she concedes that she doesn't really know why she didn't get a job, and that there was an element of just "not getting round" to it.

Sorry chris, but that story is a total fake!

Her name is Angela, not Elizabeth. She lives in Berlin not in Glasgow and she has a job ... sort of.

Young teenagers with serious gender identity disorders should be given drugs which will block puberty, international experts suggest.

i looked for this as there was an interview with the mother of an 8 year old boy (err, girl?) on BBC radio 2 earlier today. i was all "wtf?".

there's a lot of media attention paid to gender; i'm not surprised to find that an 8 year old might have recognized that he/she was possibly intersex. the variation on gender is pretty broad. if i kid is identified (don't know if it's the case in this instance) as XxY or xYY or XyX, it might be a good way to buy the young person some time to decide which way they want to be.

i initially had some of that same bit of "wtf" with the 8 year old, but it's possible the kid is precocious and aware enough to recognize something's out of step with what's usual. i'm betting it's not something lightly taken or casually passed by the doctors and psychologists.

a good reason to delay puberty in some cases is when the child feels some kind of psych pressure from nutbar parental figures. i've read of kids raised as the parent's preferred gender... they almost always end up whacked out, too.

    Woman assaulted with cheeseburger

An American has been charged with assaulting his girlfriend - by shoving a cheeseburger in her face.

Vincent Gonzalez, 22, got into a heated row with her as they ate a McDonald's meal in their car in Florida, reports The Sun.

When he would not let her out of the vehicle she retaliated by hurling his drink out of the window. He is then said to have rammed the burger in her face.

They both climbed out and Gonzalez apparently smeared it in her face once again. He has been charged with domestic violence.
