so, i'm sitting here staring at the Blurb website....i'd love to do a collaboration book as a fundraiser for Marissa's needs.
....and it's a little out of my area of expertise for me to make confident decisions. I've downloaded the Blurb's BookSmart app.
will you good people advise me more, please?
what i've envisioned:
a book titled Gamer's Alphabet. not too big/not too small.
a frontspiece (Fairfax in armour?) with a dedication faced by the Title Page.
then.. 13 pages of alphabet; each letter getting half a page (short vertical/long horizontal is my first choice)
the back... credits page and endpiece of ? another Fairfax, this time as a wizard/dragon or some such.
all subject to change.
am i making it too complicated?
then... i'd really like to unify everything with a limited colour palette. when i "see" it, there's a brick red and a mustardy yellow, a teal-ish blue, a forest green, black and white. i'd be willing to go with any palette suggestions from people who know more about gaming. a "no-palette" faction could also prevail.
after all, we'd want people to buy this at Christmastime. I'd want it all to go to the printer by the end of November.
oof. i didn't mean to disappear; i had to take the job, tho'.
nicko's been very encouraging and helpful.
i guess i'll make a signup thread tomorrow and hope many of you will participate. there's other fundraisers for Marissa and family, but i'm looking months ahead at the winter holiday time.
i hope that people won't avoid signing up because it's me. i'm not a skilled layout pro, but Blurb seems pretty idiot-proof, and i am willing to take help and advice (humbly) from you good people.
yep that's a cutie. OUR alphabet will be unified by awesomeness.
update:
after asking various people here for help editing the list of gamer terms (thank you flak, you're the only one who came through), i went to other sources. i've taken advice from a couple of longtime gamers, one of who also makes them for a living.
the list of terms is still long, and i'll be happy to edit it further if someone has a different viewpoint. all errors are mine.
i'll be posting a signup for the project tomorrow. i'm trying to word it as clearly as possible. (thank you, nicko and jesse for clarifying a couple of things for me.)
Aww, sorry for not replying to the last email (I still have it marked as unread, just haven't had the time). It's a long list to go through, but I think that's part of the strength.
