Tor is an anonymizer, no idea on the cpu load.

and i'm pretty sure that it's not part of osx, but also unlikely to be part of spyware.

It's neither part of spyware, nor default in OSX.

    http://archives.seul.org/or/talk/Jan-2006/msg00038.html

i used the uninstaller available there

i ran a spotlight search and its been on my system including a startup items thingy since 2005

its even on a really old backup system disk i made.

funny thing is, i have never seen it active before but recently its been really cpu hogging

nonetheless it is dead now - i just wanted to know it wasnt performing some vital system function before nuking it

im pretty sure i didnt install it - perhaps some unusual 3rd party thing i did try out installed it to add functionality to itself !??

    thanks for the advice

TOR does not get installed be 3rd party software... not that I know of anyway. I use TOR whenever I go and visit Christian or Creationst forums and post abusive Threads.
