I don't have the time to write out the hellish 'service' Tiscali provide but suffice it to say that they are by far the worst ISP provider, or any provider for that matter - that I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. They are rip-off merchants of the highest order and quite frankly, I don't understand how they get away with it legally.

    Any recommendations for broadband?

ewwwww I hate BT with a passion. Ive been fighting with them for 14 months because they have persistently lied to about why I have been provided with about 700k when I live in a fairly large city! They told me I'd receive over 1 meg which is recommended for gaming. I pay for the top package with them and they have never given me what I pay for. Ive been through an offcom organization to try and have my account cancelled but because my connection is configured to a petty 1.4 meg, BT are covered and I cannot so anything about it. There has been some progress after all this time, one of the many engineers to come to my house actually admitted that there must be an underground fault because his readings have isolated where the problem must be. I'm sick of arguing with them and having to explain the same problems to several different people because they dont communicate with each other.

I will try to never use a BT product / service for the rest of my life ! (sorry, nicko)

Personally, from own experiences and those of others I know, on a whole I'd keep clear of the large companies i.e. Sky, BT, Virgin, TalkTalk and of course Tiscali generally the service from those guys stink.

Me, I used NDO. Of course they are not free but also a bit pricier than most but great support even for Mac, and in the past 3 years have had consistent download speed and no down time what so ever. I can't rate them enough but I suppose that's what I am paying for.

And, as chris mentioned, I've heard good things from Eclipse.

Thanks, folks! Looking into the options mentioned now. squabble, I feel your pain about endless phone calls to completely incompetent staff. How about endless phone calls about why you have no internet whatsoever for 2 months only to be passed around from department to department - all equipped with equivalent idiots who provide no help whatsoever...say they will sort it and call you back but never do, etc. Of course, all the while I'm paying for no service whatsoever.

Promises for reimbursements never come. It's just lie after lie and robbery pure and simple.

we have used eclipse for 5 years or more now - and still have it as a 1 moth rolling contract

their response times to online support tickets is outstanding - haven't had cause to call them so i can answer for that - that said the fact i haven't speaks volumes

i equate tiscali with aol and all the shudders that that association brings with it
