when viewing in Symbol/Icon or column view it takes about a second before the content is shown in a folder. I remember being it instantaneous when I installed 10.5.1. I can't remember exactly as of which update it's been like this though. List-View is OK though. Is there anything I can do to fix this... apart from doing a fresh install of Leopard? ... or is this normal?
do you have "show icon preview" enabled in view options (command-j) that can be slow on folders with lots of documents. I find it hard to distinguish between files that way anyway, but maybe that's just me. WIth it off it's pretty much instant here. you could also try Onyx; on the maintenance tab under "rebuild" you can delete .ds_store files from a folder, which will then be rebuild (those store the info on what and how the Finder is supposed to show you stuff)
Yeah, my PowerBook is having a difficult time generating thumbnails for video files. Takes a good portion of the processor, and runs for much longer than it did in 10.5.4.
Not sure if this is an issue with 10.5.5 or Perian, but I'm running the latest Perian and it hasn't been updated for a while now.
It kind of sucks to have "the best OS" without a hidden cache file which makes sure that the content of folders on your HDD or network get shown instantaneously.
as cheap as HD space is right now, i would prefer something like that as opposed to the system processing it every time it does seem a bit sluggish, i just checked my music folders and it takes a bit to process the album art...
