Leland Parker Semeniuk 9.7Lbs, 21inches Aug 4th @ 521pm
He is absolutely beautiful. An amazing disposition , which I hope he keeps up forever. He's breastfeeding like a champ! Nikki is doing awesome as well.
The birth went pretty opposite of what we wanted. Very originally we wanted a midwife with a home birth, but with moving from Alberta to Ontario we couldn't find a midwife at all, they were all booked up. Nikki's water was broken for about 36 hours by the time they had done a C-section, she was induced at 730am on Aug 4th and it didn't make Nikki go into active labor at all. For all of the contractions she did have though Nikki did a fantastic job with out any drugs at all. She even fell asleep during almost all of the contractions, being at the hospital that long probably helped as well. By the time Leland came out the docs were afraid of infection due to the water being broken for so long. So Leland and Nikki were both on an IV for antibiotics, Niki for 24hrs, and Leland for 48. Leland wasn't a fan of IVs, he had about 5 in each hand before they finally put one in his head then tied his hands down. most of the nurses were fantastic, but our pediatrician that was there and a couple of the nurses were jerks. The pediatrician didn't give us any information about his IV and why he had to have it or for how long and was very rude to Nikki, rolling his eyes and huffing off her questions about why Leland has an IV in his head and why the jerk nurse didn't want Nikki touching him. The jerk nurse told Nikki that she didn't have to breast feed Leland because he was on an IV which is obviously BS since breast milk has alot more goodness in it then sugar water... The other nurses told us that he could go for 3-4 hours and not be dehydrated, but that it was good to breast feed every 2 hours anyways. We finally managed to get home in the evening on Aug 6th. and now he's been breast feeding for 40 mins at a time sometimes and he's slept for up to 4hours without wanting another feeding at all even when we try. Which makes it really easy to get a pretty good sleep in with him on your chest. The only time he cries is when he's getting hungry or when he farts and poop.... which must be an absolutely horrifying for a newborn lol. We're going to wake him up soon for another feeding before we goto bed with a movie after which we want to try and feed one more time before we try to sleep.
Being a father is absolutely amazing! I've been waiting for this almost my whole life and its been everything I've dream of an more. I'm glad I'm with Nikki as well because that makes it even better. She's also more then I'd ever dreamed could be possible. I never thought that this kind of happiness was even possible and I'm usually a pretty happy guy.
I've got photos on my facebook profile, add me to see them until I can get them up somewhere else to share them here. FB photo album
you got an official "awwwww" from mrs mondo, who is usually only into baby mondo (er...that'd be our baby...not some euphemism..) -- so that's pretty good.
