Jerry Uelsmann began assembling his photographs from multiple negatives decades before digital tools like Photoshop were available. Using as many as seven enlargers to expose a single print, his darkroom skills allowed him to create evocative images that combined the realism of photography and the fluidity of our dreams.
I found a brochure that the company I worked for did like 15 years ago.
On the cover it has the hateful Photoshop montage on it. So, I ask the boss man "How did you do that then?" and he confirmed that all the images were projected onto a blank wall and photographed.
I remember when registration pins were critical to the process of multi imaging, both in camera and in the darkroom. You could spend days testing and perfecting an image.
