Bonjour, I've been sent a load of 3D files to work on including "max" files which I cannot open or import into Cinema 4D. I can open all other extentions i.e 3DS, DXF, etc but not the "max" files. Does someone know if there is a way to convert these files into a format so that they can be used in Cinema 4D?
unless you have access to something like PolyTrans (which seems to convert just about anything to anything else), I'm afraid you'll need 3DStudio Max to open the .max files. Possibly you could email the files to someone with 3DS Max and ask them to convert them for you...as you may have guessed I don't happen to have access to 3DS Max. Sorry 'bout dat.
Urbansurgeon, thank you for you offer, but thing is it's a load of Dosch models & Textures, well over 200 files, so... really would be time consuming for you, but thank you again nice one!
PolyTrans (like Max) is PC-only...hope that doesn't stuff things up too much. Plus it is a little difficult to..erm..come by. I feel sure there must be another way, but .max files are very...max-y.
[edit] the first item that popped up in Google was Quick3d...it's PC-only as well, but shareware is better than PolyTrans price (a few hundred last time I looked), and it supports most file types. There must be others..
[edit again] Acrobat 3d will accept .max files, and it will certainly export most useful CAD and Stereolithography/Rapid prototyping-type files. I think the focus is on getting 3d data in and then sending it in pdf form so that it can be approved (and possibly machined), but it may export some more 3d-animation-package-oriented formats. Worth looking at if you have the latest Acrobat pro about your person somewhere.
