i apparently don't have to switch email addresses; me.com sounds so narcissistic. at least there's some minor cachet attached to the mac.com addy (i may be fooling myself, but this will be the first time, ever.)
it's not like Canadians are falling all over themselves to get iPhones. Rogers Communications did cave somewhat on their data plan ... temporarily.. but it's still a VERY BAD DEAL. the prices are horrific.
i've read dismayed comments from people in other countries about their Telcom iPhone plans. seems to be universally sucky.
i'm pissed right now that dotmac is down. that means everything i have stored there is unavailable atm. what other content storage providers go down as often as "dotme" ?
serious question. dotmac has been easy, and i do like the @mac.com email addy, but their focus is on the new wave of portable media tools, and i'm not in that playground.
Yes I still have an allegiance to dot mac that it maybe doesn't deserve. Having had high expectations of it's potential. It's perhaps offering a more complex solution than the alternatives, which is going to have an impact on reliability (?).
I quite genuinely need to work across two computers a lot and have a third as a back up and I'm still trying to get that right balance in my hope to jump on any machine and find the same things everywhere (I still use entourage which perhaps complicates things but iCal still seems a bit flaky, as does address book...). Been looking at Daylite as a way of making apple stuff work better but it' another damn app to add to the hard drive and buy (dirty word )...
finally, this afternoon, i was able to get into the dotmacdotme settings.
one one hand, the interface is ugly and slow.
otoh, they've doubled the storage.
i cannot believe how narcissistic that .me comes off.
somehow, getting my own domain and jumping through those hoops doesn't appeal to me. all i want is file/pic storage. my email is backed up through gmail. my bookmarks are backed up through delicious.
i hated it when all the lovely pics in my posts went blank. i felt effeminated. why does that sound so much less threatening than emasculated?!?!
no one i know (IRL) can afford an iPhone, either, much less the data plan.
