So we deiced that we are going to Antigua for our hols, me the mrs and a couple of friends. The thoughts of beautiful weather, laid back culture, and 365 beaches to explore... what more could I ask for?
Going here made even more sense at the time as I saw it as two birds one stone. The mrs and her friends have family in Montserrat and so a few island hops here and there are on the list of things to do.
Anyway...I knew it was all too good to be true. I found the following so mad.
On the phone to holiday company, found hotel and times available, handed over a little over 7K on credit card, and then was told "we shall send you an email to confirm your rooms." I was like "excuse me what?" and again I heard "we shall email you within 24 - 48 hrs to confirm your rooms." After lengthy questioning I found out that the holiday company was not updated as such with a live feed of what rooms were available but had to take the booking and then ask the hotel in question if they had rooms. "And what if they didn't?" I asked. Was told "we will sort something out." And as some kind of consolation was then reassured "there were only seven seats left on the flight and you have taken four of them so you were quite lucky. LUCKY? I mean they got the info for the flights but not the rooms!? but nevertheless advertise the holidays as a package. Is this not misleading?
I actually initially thought this was some kind of laid back Caribbean attitude, but 24 hrs later and still waiting to hear. I thought holidays were supposed to relax you. I am determined not to be forced into paying anymore and book a villa or cottage as I see loads of other holiday destinations at more than half the price. Would have gladly gone back to Egypt this year but was told "it's too hot this time of year!" by friends going.
