tullis russel delivery today, some mellotex, cypher, advocate and others in there, and a couple of card only stock, like ivoryboard and trucard.

now, i only got a 100g sample of mellotex, and although i like it, it doesn't beat the conqueror 120g wove. this may be down to weight alone, but hey... nicko - is there likely to be a great difference on price, d'ya reckon? i think that the run is going to be small enough for it not to make much of a difference, tbbh.

It probably won't make much of a difference chris. 10s of £s I'd say

Have a look at heavier weights on the Mellotex though

ok, that email i 'popped off' to pugh's? i phoned them and they said that the email address i sent the request to was not in use (although it's the one listed on their contact page). ok, so i forwarded the email to an address i was given over the phone - not a problem.

    got the reply -

hi thanks for the enquiry but we dont print 2 colour work only process colours.

I hate this with printers lately. I'm sick of them telling me that 'our' process solid greens are as good as any pantone solid !!!

thing is, the email i sent was quite long, with a lot of detail. it included a pdf example as an attachment, too. i had to phone them up for them to reply to an email i'd sent. then that's all he sent.

now, i've not undergone any formal customer service training with their company, but i'd have thought that his reply was slightly "lacking". fuck, if it were me, i'd have offered up a quick full colour digital quote, "just in case" - it's bound to be cheaper than the litho route, and would have maybe led to possible work for them. but, oh no, what did i get?

    "hi we dont do that,

    kthnxbai!"

ive never seen letter paper solid colour on one side before - spiffy

will it make the frontside rose-tinted?

No, i did some for a client recently with a solid purple reverse.

Just have to make sure you don't spec it on bog paper

i'm pretty sure it will make the front side a different colour, but only noticeable when laid on a white sheet. the idea is that the little circular logo on the back (in white) is visible on the front side.

thats a pretty standard reply from pugh's, lol.
I didn't realize they were only doing process stuff these days.

I've seen solid colour reverse, but rarely get the chance to do any - it effectively doubles your costs.

It'll only double the cost of the stock if it's printed work and turn innit

    paper weight is critical then?

too thin and its barbie themed and too thick and its a waste of effort?

love to see the finished article

...well, it may be the case that it's a bit feint, but it'll definitely show when there's a bit of light behind it, so it wont be a total waste of effort *fingers crossed*

and of course i'll post some photomagraphs :)

something like that (depending on your monitor calibration, of course hehe)

to be honest, that looks more orange than it should turn out to be on this imac with srgb monitor profile.

if i use the calibrated profile i made, it gets much closer. but hey, it's an approximation. but yeah, it's not bright/brilliant red :)

it's going 2-colour litho. even have a bit of black tint overprint.

tell you what though, i hope the red on the back is flat. and i hope that the registration on the black overprint is spot on. there'll be trouble otherwise!

Yeah, the red needs to be flat. Ive designed a few letterheads with a solid on the reverse now, all 2 colour, and they've all been flat. The format works well because when you are trying to find the particular letter in a pile / file or whatever, it stands out. Lots of companies are doing it now :)
