Batman Returns was WAY better than the subsequent films, save the last one (batman Begins) which blew them all away. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Was stellar book. Batman has a great library of really good stories, makes you wonder why it took sooooooooo long to do one film right.

And it appears Rachel McAdams isn't up for Katie Holmes' role any longer, as Maggie Gyllenhaal has reportedly been cast.

No, it still says she's rumored, but I like maggie as well, she's a great actress. I have a soft spot for Rachel because she's canadian. And hot. Hot helps too...

No, by all means I know what you are saying, nothing is ever set in stone when movies are concerned. It's interesting to see al the rumors that are involved in this movie. I remember that a few months ago Jake Gyllenhaal was rumored to play Harvey Dent as well as Matt Damond was rumored to have turned it down.

I've seen it twice. On wednesday (16th) before it was released though private screening then again at the launch on the 18th. It's an amazing film. If people considered Iron man to be the quintessential "comic book" movie (due to it's summer blockbuster-y, brightly coloured, feel-goodness) then this should be the quintessential "graphic novel" movie. It's a crime drama/suspense/thriller, much more like The Departed or, say... Heat... it just so happens that two of the characters in the film have wardrobe with "flair". Kevin Smith said it was like Se7en, with a cape, if you've seen the movie you may think he's on to something. When the screening was done we all looked at each other and were speechless, like what the fuck just happened, never did 2.5 hours disappear so quickly. After the premiere, everyone clapped.

For some reason our theatre had some pre-movie entertainment at the launch. 10 minutes before the movie started, the "joker" and two goons came in and re-enacted the scene where the joker crashes Bruce's party looking for Harvey Dent, then some one stands up as the batman and "takes care" of them. It was lame but funny since we weren't expecting it.

cinemas are too pricey for me - i traded in my cineworld unlimited pass for a lovefilm.com account (netflicks for you yankeedoodledandees) - along with my 46" lcd and 3.1 surround sound (didn't want the 5.1 speakerville living-room takeover), there's really not much in it any more (apart from i don't have to listen to some git on their phone while they kick the back of my seat and then start a big ruck because i get the hump and have a go at them).

    Ok.

I just got home from DARK KNIGHT.

Bear with me for a minute...

    I read ya',overbyte, and I understand totally...but...

This, we now are in, is the age of the DVD and playing movies on your computer OR (if you have dough enough) a big screen TV.

I come from the *age* before this...I read voraciously and I LOVE MOVIES. Now I am a sponge for all things with what I call GOOD MESSAGE in it...not talking all pink ribbons and happy endings either! I mean GOOD MESSAGE even if it is about the *evil in mankind's hearts & minds*...GOOD MESSAGE. Ones I can soak up and learn from...be it in books, plays or MOVIES. (TV OCCASIONALLY but SELDOM) before I had to budget my spending money and SAVE for the suckers I was knolwn to see 3 movies in a row...IF they were good ones. heheheh...you know why I suck it up and pay my million for a ticket, a popcorn & a soda?? I'll tell you why...because...

I need the screen to be LARGE...LARGER than me and all the ppl in the theatre...I need the surround sound LARGE...so you can feel it coming up through the floor(ahem...it's how I lost 1/2 hearing in my left ear going to rock concerts and STANDING IN FRONT NEXT TO SPEAKERS 20 feet tall) Why ? And *she's nutz* the people of THIS AGE will say...but I need the GOOD MESSAGE,sound and picture to not leave any room for my measly problems of the day (thank goodness they CAN be dwarfed in the cinema...I am a lucky girl) It's like when I stood on the rim of the Grand Canyon...all your stuff seems to get small, standing there. So if it isn't a book (which creates the SAME THING in the infinite spaces of my mind) then I like my MOVIES IN THE MOVIE THEATRE WHERE THEY ARE (as they were meant to be) BIGGER THAN LIFE.

Anything from the good message in things like Forest Gump to A Man For All Seasons (Thomas Moore beheaded by the big baby King Henry the 8th because Moore WAS TRUE TO HIS BELIEFS...as he put it * It is not that I believe it ...but that
    I
believe it...*...to this DARK KNIGHT...Good message and good movie needs TO BE BIG (I dunno maybe it's because i'm an emotional Italian tee-hee)

NOW thank you for listening...and here is my report:

nicko...Biff...I know you both prolly have EXCELLENT LARGE screen TVs BUT if you EVER EVER CAN...SEE THE MOVIE IN THEATRE>>> It is LOUD AND EXCELLENTLY EXCITING AND CHOCK FULL OF GREAT CUTTING EDGE (what America is GOOD at...said w/pride) SPECIAL EFFECTS...and ...are you ready it is EXcellently acted by some of my very favorite actors(Morgan Freeman & Gary Oldman to name two) AND...ready? IT IS CHOCK FULL OF GOOD MESSAGE ABOUT THE HEARTS OF MANKIND in the bargain.

    I loved it.

And I truly am sad that we won't have any more work from Ledger...TRULY sad.

(Ve. steps down) I'm just sayin'

I read elsewhere, someone said that Ledger's death was undoubtedly because of the pact he made with Satan to get the role done so damn well.

Ledger was excellent, and I'm not just saying that because he's gone. He stole every scene he appeared in, and many of the scenes without The Joker felt like they were missing him.

For that matter, the entire crew did an excellent job - I really liked how Maggie Gyllenhaal played Rachel Dawes, she turned the character into a real person (hell, she kicked The Joker while he had a knife to her face).

heh...I was allowed out of the house as a treat, and when I got to the cinema they said "it's our birthday today!" and charged me $5. I felt a bit awkward muttering "Congratulations," but I was well pleased. Possibly I'm alone in thinking that the gravelly-voiced Batman ended up seeming utterly ridiculous and unconvincing...but Ledger was a joy to watch; I can't imagine how he (or anybody else in that role) could have done better.

Not because he's gone now, but because of that performance... just gotta say:

    Ledger > Nicholson
  7.
i think its kind of crazy comparing the two roles, as
the intention of each movie was completely different.
