Boycott? But this is the perfect time to open China's eyes.

Imagine how much security they're going to need to keep all of those people from hearing about things like Tiananmen Square.

Montreal is probably still trying to recover after 1976; you don't want Vancouver going the same way..!

The oppression of Tibet = B.A.D.

    Waterboarding, Taser-Deaths & connecting Saddam to 9/11= G.O.O.D

Blues'.. old pal.. ;) i know they're both "C" words.

seriously.. what are you going to do?

myself, i'll encourage the 2 aquaintances i know on the Canadian Olympic Team not to go. sadly, as they're a skier and a snowboarder, they weren't going anyway.

the next time the Dalai Lama visits his pals on the farm (posh zen buddhist retreat) up the road from here, we'll all give him a bunch of money for TIbet again. that's something anyway, i guess.

and yeah.. the Olympics is big biz, and aside from some fine athletes it is a sham. i don't expect much good to come from the Vancouver hosting; there's some jobs right now, but the city's going to take a long time to recover. they budgeted a certain amount for infrastructure improvements, etc. that's already something like 800% over what was set and allocated, and there's no backing out now. London's turn to eat it soon, too.
  1.
Not looking forward to the London Olympics. Apart from the fact that the sign for it crap, it's going to turn out to be a big England patriot thing. And I detest that. I know I was raised and live in Scotland, but I still consider myself British to a certain extent. And I don;t bash on about Scotland being great that much. It is by the way.

that's so not happening or going to happen. it's about london dammit! ;)

but in reality it'll be about britain because the team will be british not english...
  2.
That's like saying Murray is British.
He's not by the way, he's Scottish, and proud of it. Hence the cap.

Read about the protests in France at the lighting of the torch. Really powerful flag of the olympic symbol in handcuffs. See if I can find a picture.

there've been a few small protests in this area, but as far as any real impact, it still comes down to petitioning your MP/congressman/national political representative. my government and the neighbouring US govt are making all the right noises but not actually leaning on China.

there was a fundraiser, but don't ask me where the money's going. riot helmets for Shaolin monks?

Me thinks you mean Greece? :)

I really doubt any politician will in the end use the olympics as any sort of bargaining tool with the Chinese now. China is needed for economic reasons, so its kind of it'd be nice if they behaved but we can ignore it if need be syndrome.
