I shall be staying up late this weekend!

    Ferrari will win again :D
  1.
I'm going McClaren and Lewis Hamilton, because if he does it and Barnsley win the FA Cup I'm £50 richer.

Nice to see Williams being competitive but ferrari need to sort out their engine issues and erratic drivers!! :awkward:

Erratic drivers they do not have... but yeah. Not a good start. Raikkonen sure made up some ground quick, but things got screwy for almost everyone later on.

Take away traction control and the old engine braking and watch 'em fly! :)

Wonder why they cut David Coulthard's comment about Masa out of the re run show.

Saying he's going to knock 10 lumps of shit out of a rival on live TV was kinda funny

Me thinks neither of them should take the sole blame for that accident!

Watched the Highlight, and it was awesome!
Ok, not very much racing, but I liked the air jump! Even started tempting work mates to watch it. Raikonnen is struggling without the traction control!! And bastard Alonso for overtaking Kovolainen. So close!!

Raikonnen and Massa just drove crap on the day, I don't think you can conclude that they drove poor because of no traction control based on one race...
  3.
But Raikonnen made so many mistakes, like quite trivial ones aswell, like taking a corner too quickly. You'd think the world champion would know a little better. Still think that until everyone gets more used the cars could make for a great open leader board.

I think raikkonen's fine without the TC... just was trying to push hard in order to make up the massive handicap delt to him by the mechanical failure in qualifying. No risk no reward. He only made one mistake in my opinion.

I'm a raikkonen fan, YEAH SO?

    WHOOHOOO!!!! FINALLY HERE!

    So Excited!

gents, I must say... I got rid of my satellite TV at the beginning of 08 and haven't missed it a bit until last weekend. I did however find some great quality torrents of the weekend (practice, qualy and race!) from the ITV broadcasts. I've always liked the fellas on SPEEDTV but this was quite refreshing to have a completely different perspective and preshows on the diff broadcast.

And of course, being a McLaren fan... wasn't too disappointed with the outcome of the weekend either!

now... if someone would just post a Malaysia friday torrent out there on teh intarwebs i'd be set!

Glad to hear Kovolainen is alright, that was some crash. Was at work so couldn't have the commentary on, but my deputy let me put it on the small Tv. Look like a fairly standard race from what I caught out the corner of my eye.

    Highest g-forces survived by humans

    Voluntary

Colonel John Stapp in 1954 sustained 46.2 g in a rocket sled, while conducting research on the effects of human deceleration.[9][10]

    Involuntary

Formula One racing car driver David Purley survived an estimated 179.8 g in 1977 when he decelerated from 173 km/h (108 mph) to rest over a distance of 66 cm (26 inches) after his throttle got stuck wide open and he hit a wall.[2]

Indy Car driver Kenny Bräck crashed on lap 188 of the 2003 race at Texas Motor Speedway. Bräck and Tomas Scheckter touched wheels, sending Bräck into the air at 200+ mph, hitting a steel support beam for the catch fencing. According to Bräck's site his car recorded 214 g.[11]

yeah sock, that race was extremely bland, worst one so far this season. I'm hoping the shift back to mechanical grip (slick tyres, less aero)and their super turbo boost button (for reals) next year will help sort that out, more overtaking, more racing.

tbh, it's one of the better ones i've seen of late (not that i watch much f1, admittedly*)

while little bernie ecclestone has managed to do his best to turn f1 into a giant cruise where the only thing that stands between winning and loosing is two pitstops, i've been hankering for a couple of specific elements which i believe would make for some better racing. they are as follows:
    1. crashes
    2. accidents
    3. overtaking
    4. excitement

motogp is beginning to leave me with an empty feeling these days, too. i'd be happier if there was a single tyre manufacturer in it, for starters. world super bike and brit super bikes makes for much closer, and therefore more interesting racing (with elbows/crashes galore), but tv coverage is difficult to come by without satellite :(

there has been a fair few crashes this season so far, so thats always on the cards. and more than a fair few accidents, mostly knocking out british drivers, as usual.

Overtaking is what next year is all about, every rule and regulation change for next year has that in mind.

Yeah I'll try and explain it.

Theres a feedback system which takes energy from braking and passes it back to the engine, it's stored in something first, lets call it a flux capacitor for now.

While the store is full, it feeds back as much power (around 30bhp) as it receives, during racing you can use ALL of the stored power giving you around 80bhp for a short period of time. After the store has been depleted, you will lose the 30bhp you were gaining from the full store, and it takes around 1 full speed lap to replenish and give that back.

Theoretically you could use this boost around once per 2 laps, however I imagine that will break your car, so it's probably going to be used more tactically, for overtaking, pit laps etc.

    Excellent !

Your probably right, its difficult enough as it is, to keep a car on the track for the full race without the flux capacitor. It adds another tactical dimension to the sport, which I'm really looking forward to :)
