    M.I.T. Sues Architect Frank Gehry

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is suing renowned architect Frank Gehry, alleging serious design flaws in the Stata Center, a building celebrated for its unconventional walls and radical angles.

The school asserts that the center, completed in spring 2004, has persistent leaks, drainage problems and mold growing on its brick exterior. It says accumulations of snow and ice have fallen dangerously from window boxes and other areas of its roofs, blocking emergency exits and causing damage.

i liked that untreated metal cladding, and i just came across some more - this time, much more rusted :D

new caixa building by herzog & de meuron in madrid. the rusted steel cladding really makes the build blend in with the other, brick, constructions around it.

I just had to do it:

(idea is not mine, this is a blatant rip-off from somebody else)

Looks kinda cool. I'll try to make a video of this :D

    edit:

    here it is

It's not a world turning animation, but a good study. Could be easily used in a project.

The Sikkens Prize for colour application will be awarded to Krijn de Koning on the 1st of December in Rotterdam.

The Sikkens Foundation stimulates and draws attention to developments in the application of colour. Several renowned artists received the prize in the past, like Gerrit Rietveld, Le Corbusier and Theo van Doesburg.

This year, Dutch artist Krijn de Koning (1963) will receive the prestigious award for his work. De Koning creates outspoken interventions in existing spaces, with a starring role for colour. Visitors have strong sensorial experiences in De Koning's works of art, that discusses the relation between man and environement.

The stadium is designed by Arup Sport & Reid-Fenwick Associated, and yay, it's another British-led project. What i can't understand is why we have so much success abroad with British Design and implementation, yet large architectural projects in the UK suffer from the usual - poor planning, budgets spiralling out of control and failed deadlines. Wembley for example, was an absolute travesty, especially when you consider the Emirates was built on budget and to schedule, and is reaping benefits already. And to be honest, Wembley stadium looks nowehere near as inspiring as the these last two stadiums shown in this thread.

    acrylic house

using heat-insulating, 20mm-thick acrylic boards, the boundary between the inside and the outside has been made as "transparent" as possible. architect often say things like "bringing the outside inside", and "blurring the boundaries between...", but i think they've done a pretty good job of it in this case. it's a shame that it's still quite close to other houses, but it still affords some privacy (or seems to, at least) to the inhabitants.

Brad Pitt Commissions Designs for New Orleans

"...commissioned by the actor Brad Pitt to help rebuild New Orleans’s impoverished Lower Ninth Ward, one of the neighborhoods hit hardest by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

The project, called Make It Right, calls for building 150 affordable, environmentally sound houses over the next two years. In a telephone interview from New Orleans, where he plans to present the designs today, Mr. Pitt said the residents of the neighborhood had been homeless long enough. “They’re coming up on their third Christmas,” he said. The Year in Architecture

Green roofs sprouted in the South Bronx, the Glass House opened wide, bus shelters got chic, Frank Gehry finally built something in New York, Robert Moses and Jane Jacobs kissed and made up (after a fashion), and a gauzy aluminum museum rose shimmering over the Bowery.
