I think this thread is the best place for this.

These typographic tree columns are being created in collaboration with Gordon Young at the Crawley Library in West Sussex County. The photos are of the work in progress, with the library opening January ’09. Firm: Why Not Associates, London.More images here.

    wow, those are pretty hot.

i was planning on carving tomas' name into a tree in the garden at some stage - maybe i'll try it in blackletter, it looks pretty good!

lafemi... those tree columns are beautiful. ;) if the letters were cut into a living tree, they'd have to be spaced farther apart. in 30 years, those would be all mushed together in one big scar.

that staircase is wonderful. it looks so fragile and delicate... and you KNOW it's not. cool.

great? :p huge, even. heh the big showerhead does look sensational. on their site, the "Renoir" model is my fave. i like that turtleback shape the best.

me too, but without spending any money.

this qualifies as "patio furniture". i do something similar, but my efforts are limited to fences and cat climbing gyms.

this is a plum tree. (harvested in 1998. their site http://www.pooktre.com/ is interesting, but fugly.)

we have a rotating glass door to get into reception in this brand new building. they have stuck little red-dot stickers around the inside of it so you don't walk into the doors, directional arrow stickers on the curved glass to show which way to push it (handles only on one side), and no entry stickers on the flat panel glass either side of the door so you don't try to walk through the glass. because people need as much instruction about how to use a door as you could possibly give them.

clean glass design, meet staples™ own-brand office sticker set!

all those buildings made of walls of glass have little deadbird splat outlines all over them... *sigh*. the "glass people" should leave the transport stickers on, i think.

that pharmacy.. the periodic table window display is exceptionally cool. :) the tree trunk.... is sort of jarring. that's not a bad thing.

^ I don't think it swings, so it is not worth getting :-)

... I don't like the massive wooden beams too much though and the overall "unfinished" look – but the idea is cool... maybe make it all metal?

that bed is an example of a principle: just because you can think of it, doesn't mean it should be made. :)

what a stupid idea. wasteful of materials, and UGLY. i showed it to my engineer daughter, and she laughed and laughed. "overbuilt much?" was her most coherent remark.

though it might go well with this guy's concept furniture:
