as some of you know, i'd like to start home brewing (as i'm not allowed out anymore). i have had a bit of a look round, read some info here and there and think that i can grasp the fundamentals.

i think that i am veering towards a beginners kit, but something with glass fermenters, over the plastic, to begin with. but a kit that would have enough good parts that i can keep and will grow with me (not me belly!).

just wondering if anyone (and not just HJ ;)) would like to offer up some advice, links, info and funny anecdotes on the subject - it's very welcome!

saying that, it'd be nice to have a 40pinter brewing during the build... would have something to celebrate with then, eh? :D

wow... just signed up and i'm already mentioned here. :)

nothing wrong at all with starting with that kit. all you need is a pot to brew in (stainless preferred) that will hold at LEAST 3 gallons. And really... it's not complicated at all. if you can read and follow a recipe you can homebrew.

The kits are great to start with and make good beer. the biggest thing I can stress is SANITATION! Be anal about it and you'll be fine. Northern Brewer makes some good kits. Other online joints are MoreBeer.com for supplies. Might check out www.realbeer.com too. They have homebrewer forums where you can read up and get pretty much any question answered.

I did a google for homebrew UK and got a bunch of results. Can't speak for their sites or service but they seem plentiful.

    Happy Homebrewing!

p.s. if you can find a local supplier that would be tits. here's mine: www.listermann.com

also, assuming you're on a Mac...

if you really get into it there's software to help with recipe development/organization. I use BeerAlchemy (www.kentplacesoftware.com)

There are other free (open source) ones too like QBrew and Homebrew Formulator.

Will be brewing some chocolate stout in the next few weeks. Did a batch a while ago and it was heaven.

The Canadian Blonde didn't work out, but then do blondes over work out?

    the Do-It-Yourself Beerking?

I recall an old episode from the series "On the Busses" where Stan makes his own beer. Can't help picturing you like him now ;)
