unfortunately i agree with peak it's a book for kids and our world sucks but just because things are at the open these days not because they didn't exist in the past (even worst)... The world sucked before but people didn't know it (and maybe it was better)...

I remember I had a book when I was in Grade 2 About Sexual assault was as tastefully done as could be expected and even helped a few kids in my grade in all honesty. That would have been in '85. I would rather my kids be informed and protected, then Innocent victims.

ed: then again, I don't plan on having kids...

It's a difficult one, I do have mixed feeling about it . . . I can see how it might help in some circumstances but dealing with it on a human level has surely got to be better. Sure, there were many things that were hidden in the past, so we little knew how to quantify them but also, as we've exposed ourselves more and more to the ills of the world, we do seem to have more and more of those damn ills, which then breeds a culture of fear . . . rather than understanding, heeling or true justice . . .

I had a book in nursery school. Mack and Tab. A cat and mouse.

In book one, Mack ate Tab. This was fairly traumatic to my four year old self. In book two, Mack gets a tummy ache and gets Tab surgically removed. Tab was fine.

This also traumatized me. No good was had by these books.

I agree, I would rather it not be necessary, but these events happen and they need to be dealt with. Understanding, heeling can only come with acknowledgment - not only to let the victim know they didn't do anything wrong, but that they didn't deserve for it. Those are big issues that can scar a person as bad as actual events did. My Wife will be finishing up her masters in psychology soon and one thing she has always stated is that the time it takes to get over any form of psychological trauma is equivalent to the time it's been suppressed. In some of these cases that could be ten to fifteen years (if ever). For the good of the victims that ball should be rolling a lot sooner than that.

I can understand that these things need to be dealt with, and unfortunately we live in a world where a lot of people believe ignorance is bliss and refuse to face problems like these. However, does the literary about these problems written for children need to sound so douchey? (Word?)

Notice how in the book, "Uncle Pete" just has to cry about it and ask for forgiveness, without any kind punishment after that?

"Oh, I molested you, boo-hoo *sob* Sorry? OK we're friends again wheee!"

    :awkward:
