The nomadic people of these areas live in an extremely harsh climate year in and out where it is cold and dry. Their dietary intake consists of eating quite a lot of meat with high fat content - such as beef and lamb, there are very little vegetables available and yet these people do not display the incidence of obesity and other physical ailments that affect western society today. They believe the reason for this is that they consume Fu Cha on a daily basis.

Huni, the skincare range designed by designworks, has been commended at the 'global design Oscars', the Design Week Awards in London, an award designworks took out in 2004 for the B_E_E range, and the same event that crowned Apple’s iPhone with a Best in Show award.

Huni was the only shortlisted entry to be commended in the branded packaging category.

The judges praised Huni for its “bold personality that reflects its roots in New Zealand”. The pattern, logo and typeface, inspired by the flow and movement of honey, were also singled out for a special mention.

designworks Auckland developed the brand strategy, positioning and design of the brand. Huni was conceived as a fun and sexy alternative to 'earnest' natural skincare clichés. The bold packaging form, typography and imagery all deliver on the strategy of a desirable natural product that’s good for you.

The Design Week success marks the second design industry honour for designworks and Huni since the brand launched: the packaging also won gold at the Designer’s Institute BeST Awards in October last year.

Last summer, Marian Bantjes and Pentagram teamed up to refresh the iconic Strathmore thistle. Marian’s reinterpretation went against the creative brief, against Michael Bierut’s direction, and against Marian’s own initial inclination. Her presentation showed the explorations leading up to her radical redo of the thistle. She described this direction as “essentially not calligraphic. It’s basically geometric. A little bit old, a little bit new. Kinda bitchin’.” Who could resist? Certainly not us.

Michael B. and Katie Barcelona at Pentagram translated Marian’s motif for our new ream wrap. Yes, we call it the Dream Ream. Once again, our design stars have aligned! Theme swag to follow. Thistle keep us amused for a long time.
